Yesterday there was some snow and everyone in the area started panicking: “Winter storm! Storm advisory! It will be worse tomorrow!” By the evening everyone was so convinced it was terrible and tomorrow would be worse that most schools up and canceled. They didn’t even wait to see how bad the morning would actually be.
It was icy. I’ll give you that. I decided it wasn’t safe to run given the sheer pane of ice covering all sidewalks, though I did make it to the metro without trouble and the roads seemed fine. But I won’t make fun of local overreaction – especially since President Obama did a pretty good job already. (The video on Politico is longer.)
I will give D.C. buses credit for not failing at the first mention of snow as catastrophically as Seattle buses, though they don’t have quite the same hills to navigate.
